Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we did not rate this facility well overall, we wanted to point out its decent health inspection reports in recent years. We gave it a relatively respectable score of B- in that area. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an B-. When computing our nursing scores, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This place provides only 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area is its short-term care score, where it was given a B-. Short-term care grades are commonly used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services To offer good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the last category, this nursing home was given a grade of B- for long-term care, which we consider to be a decent rating. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.20635 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
