Long-term Care Quality
On top of receiving a strong overall score, this facility fared well in long-term care. In fact, we gave it an A+ for that category, which is one of our highest scores. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.63 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with a score of A. Few nursing homes with an overall score in this range performed as well in multiple categories. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. This facility didn't perform quite as well in this category as it did in some other categories. Nevertheless, this is still a respectable score. Our nursing rating analyzes a handful of factors, most of which are based on nursing hours. This facility averages just 3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Finally, we also considered a few quality-based statistics in this category. While this place did not rank highly in terms of its nursing hours per resident, it performed better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place fared better than the national average. This is often an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, proved to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that area. This is one of just a few weak links of a strong profile. In our short-term care grade, we try to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this place's case, it looks like it offered less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 14.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
