Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well overall, this facility received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given an impressive score of A- in our long-term care category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the senior population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
In our last area, this facility also received a first-rate short-term care rating, with a grade of B+. This completed a very impressive report card. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be most meaningful for folks needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
