One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ in short-term care. This is as good as it gets in this area. In calculating our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is more often than not a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 77 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed as well in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This facility was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. The nursing category analyzes a handful of components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in many of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients sustaining falls which lead to serious injury, this facility outpaced the national average.

The last area we looked at was nursing, ended up being this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. This was one of the couple of dings of an otherwise impressive profile. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. After looking at nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. Based on its grade in this category, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this facility fared reasonably well in both of these subcategories. In fact, this nursing home vaccinated 99.37107 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which appears to be higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
