Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility received high marks in the area of nursing. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our nursing grade is mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. About one-fourth of these hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled nurses. This is a high percentage of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by these types of nurses more in computing our nursing ratings. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving patients more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to be awarded several A+ category scores. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 90.78014 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be slightly less than we anticipated but still a respectable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last category, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. We awarded it a grade of B+ in that category. This completed a very impressive profile. With our short-term care category, we seek to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. When we assessed this nursing home's nursing hours, we found it offered much more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 37.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
