Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A+. Few places fared as well in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a favorable long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this category. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 90.366974 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we gave them one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a grade of B. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Moving on to our fourth category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for nursing. This is the nursing home's worst category rating. However, you shouldn't over-emphasize one poor category. The nursing grade includes several data points. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This place averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Unfortunately, this place also did not fare as well as we had hoped in some of the quality measures we assessed in this category.
