Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we gave this place a poor overall grade, we gave it a grade of B for our inspections rating. This is due to the facility receiving a decent inspection report this year. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

As it turns out, this facility only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which is actually one of its more favorable category scores. Our short-term care scores are likely more important for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its score in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing rating considers many datapoints. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. With just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home really didn't fare very well in this area either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to only 82.5 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
