In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also was awarded a strong long-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it a grade of B+ in this category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.12206 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.92 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility was just about middle of the pack in this area.

The third area we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home received a C in this area. In determining our short-term care grades, we size up the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is more often than not a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 44.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

The last area we looked at was nursing. We gave it an F for this category, which is a very poor score. This is clearly a major concern. In calculating a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
