This place's long-term care rating is notably more impressive than its overall grade. Due to a strong performance in this category, it received one of our higher scores in that area with a B+. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.67 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this facility an B. Our nursing grade is based on many factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is higher than the level of care offered by most facilities. Lastly, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

We also awarded this nursing home a middle of the pack score in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. With our short-term care assessment, we try to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home performed better in this statistic. We found that it fared better than most facilities in this area with 54 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

In the last area we looked at, we found that this facility earned a solid government inspection report this year as well, with few major dings from government inspectors. As a result, it earned a decent score in inspections with a B-. This nursing home really didn't have any major weaknesses. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
