Short-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care. We gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our best grades. This really boosted its overall profile. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
In addition, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Another reason we rated this facility so highly is that it received an A+ nursing score. Our nursing score is mostly based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is long-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is an abysmal grade. This is certainly a major concern. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 97.769516 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
