Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well overall, this nursing home also received nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it received one of our best scores in that area with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its top-shelf performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.916664 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Turning the page to our third area, this nursing home received a top-shelf short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. With our short-term care rating, we seek to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

The fourth area we analyzed is nursing, where this facility was awarded an A-. This completed an elite profile. Very few nursing homes earned an A- or better in each of our categories. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient at least once a day.
