Long-term Care Quality
On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really performed well in the area of long-term care, where it earned an A. Few facilities fared better in this category. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also excelled in inspections. We gave it an A- for that area, which is one of our best scores. This is one of the few nursing homes with an overall grade in this range which received multiple category grades this high. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category usually have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. The nursing grade includes many subcategories, but the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
