Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this place favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this area, which was much better than its overall score. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this area. Avoiding serious falls is typically an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility offers enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of short-term care, this nursing home received a grade of just D in that area. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well in this area. In fact, we found that just 35.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is long-term care, was this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.34711 percent of its patients. Unfortunately, its hospitalization rate was far less impressive. Here we found that this facility had 2.06 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
