Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This place really fared well in the category of long-term care, where it earned an impressive grade of A. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 96.14148 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. The last statistic we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 1.73 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. We gave this nursing home a score of D. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we rated is short-term care. It received an F for this area, which is a rock bottom score. This is clearly a major disappointment. Our short-term care ratings are vital for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. This includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, it looks like it provides fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last area we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that it fared better in this area, with 55.5 percent of its patients returning home. This was just about this nursing home's only redeeming quality in this category.
