Facility Inspections
Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's second most favorable category is long-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. For residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we graded was short-term care, in which this facility received an F. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we rated is nursing. This facility received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this area. The nursing grade considers a number of data points. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
