Registered Staff Hours
Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent grade in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's second most favorable category is long-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. For residents seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Does this page answer your questions about Eldorado Rehab & Healthcare?
We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in the area of nursing. We awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our best grades. We assessed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is an abysmal score. Short-term care grades are generally employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't stunned to discover this place was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we assess. In fact, it offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
