Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home really excelled in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. Our short-term care grades are probably most critical for patients requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility received an impressive long-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area with a grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 95.592285 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing, proved to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in this category. This was one of just a couple of weak points of a strong profile. There are several factors within this grade. Most of the factors reflect nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these data points to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
