In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Very few places fared as well in this area. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Among its many impressive scores, this nursing home received first-rate short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. In forming our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home offered more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a facility in this category. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 58.4 percent of its patients returning home.

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It performed better than most facilities in this area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 94.067795 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Switching gears to our next category, this nursing home was awarded an excellent nursing score. Even though this wasn't as dominant as several of its other scores, this remains one of our better scores we offer. Our nursing grade is largely associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, more than one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. We apply more weight to hours worked by skilled nurses in computing our nursing scores. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
