Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid places that have a long list of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was given an F for its short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Given its score in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 82.00692 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points below the national average. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
The final category we scored was nursing. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. There are numerous subcategories included in this grade. Most of these subcategories are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. In addition to ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility was at about 150 percent of the national average in both of these metrics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
