Facility Inspections
On top of being an elite nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Very few facilities performed as well in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to this facility's list of accomplishments, it also received a fine long-term care score. We gave them a strong strong of A in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered in addition to this facility's impressive nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 1.62 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third best area turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a C. Our short-term care ratings are probably more important for patients needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 37 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at was nursing. In that area, we gave this nursing home an acceptable grade of C. This actually was this facility's weakest category. Nursing ratings are mostly tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.1 hours per resident per day. This is well above average. Lastly, this place performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average.
