Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing rating is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Remarkably, we gave this nursing home a B- for its short-term care grade, which isn't too bad of a score. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is considered to be a reliable assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. It performed well in this area with 62.4 percent of its patients returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

We were also surprised to discover that this facility received a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We awarded it a B- in that category. In determining our long-term care grades, we size up the assistance with daily living offered to the facility's residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 98.32869 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Moving on the last category of inspections, this facility had an abysmal showing. Sadly, it received an F in our inspection category. This is the most heavily weighted category in our overall grading system. When a place has this bad of an inspection rating, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. This particular nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
