Nurse Quality
Even though this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it received a decent score in nursing. We gave it a grade of B- for that category. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the number of hours nurses are seeing patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's second most favorable area is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B-. In our long-term care rating, we focus on the sheer quantity of care offered by a nursing home, along with a few qualitative statistics. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections
We were also surprised to award this nursing home a favorable government inspection grade as well. We awarded it a B- in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our next area, we gave this nursing home a D for the area of short-term care. This is the facility's worst category rating. Our short-term care grades are critical for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't stunned to learn this place was well below average in many staffing areas we looked at. It supplied far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
