While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

As it turns out, this nursing home only received a D for its long-term care rating, which happens to be one of its better category scores. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.666664 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Our nursing category analyzes many subcategories, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This place provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

The next category we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home received a very poor grade here also. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. With a grade in this range in this area, we were not surprised to learn this place was well below average in the two key staffing metrics we focus on. It supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
