Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection grades are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an C. In determining our nursing grades, we look at both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did well in this area. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a patient even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we looked at is long-term care, where this nursing home received a C in this area. Our long-term care scores are more important for residents requiring more traditional assistance related to activities of daily living. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.376625 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we assessed is short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is a very poor score. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
