Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall grade, we gave it a grade of C for our nursing category. The nursing grade consists of quite a few factors, many of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Even though this place excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in certain statistics that related to quality. This facility's nursing grade was pulled down by its weak performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 18 percent of this facility's residents suffered from pressure ulcers.

As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this facility's bottom of the barrel overall grade. It earned a C in this category. We would argue that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home had 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were category G through L deficiencies. This indicates it dodged the more significant classes of deficiencies. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Historical

As it turns out, this facility only earned a grade of D for its short-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. In determining these short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 27 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

The next category we rated was long-term care, which turned out to be a weak link for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a D for the area of long-term care. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 92.76139 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit lower than we expected but still a respectable figure. Finally, we were stunned by the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared poorly with 4.85 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is more than twice the national average.
