Nurse Quality
We would like to point out that this facility's nursing score exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a B+ in this category, which is one of our better grades. Our nursing score considers many datapoints. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another category where this nursing home excelled. We gave this facility an B+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
The next most favorable area we awarded this facility in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a C. Short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 27.3 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is a very poor score. This is certainly a major disappointment. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 80.57554 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be significantly lower than what we expected. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.58 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is also alarming.
