Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better grade than the place's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a strong score in long-term care. This nursing home received a B in this area, which turns out to be one of our better scores. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 78.205124 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be a bit less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. The last datapoint we looked at was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.54 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. The nursing rating is based on several factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This place averages 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is well below average. Lastly, we also factored in a few quality-based metrics in this category. Although this facility did not rank highly in terms of its nursing hours per resident, it performed much better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, this place fared better than the national average. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this category, which is an abysmal grade. This is obviously a significant concern. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more important for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. It appears that this place was below average in multiple staffing metrics we looked at. The facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 27.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
