To go along with its decent overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspections rating. This is far better than its overall rating. Our inspection grades are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home performed well in nursing. We awarded it an C for that category, which is one of our best scores. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

This facilities third most favorable category was long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this category. Long-term care grades focus on a facility's personal care rather than the skilled therapy or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home gave the vaccine to just 80.821915 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

This nursing home's least impressive area was short-term care, which is the final area we scored. We gave it an abysmal F in this category. Even with multiple decent scores in other categories, this grade is nevertheless of a concern so we wanted to point it out. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is frequently a reliable assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we were not stunned to discover this nursing home was below average in two of the key staffing areas we assess. It provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.
