Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received a strong long-term care score. In fact, we gave it one of our most impressive grades in this area with a score of A. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.859314 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.42 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. The nursing grade consists of a handful of components, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home offered a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at was short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of D for short-term care, leaving this as its worst category grade. With our short-term care grade, we strive to forge a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. In this facility's case, we found that it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
