Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category, with an A. This is a much better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a grade of A in that area, which happens to be one of our best scores. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. When computing a facility's nursing grade, we weigh the number of hours nurses are with residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we looked at is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is a very poor grade. This is certainly a major concern. Our short-term care grades are vital for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
