Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving an elite overall rating, this facility earned an A+ inspection rating. This is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the highest complements we can offer a nursing home. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home was given dominant marks in the area of short-term care. For this reason, it was given one of our most impressive scores in that category with a grade of A+. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the nation with 63.8 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the well above average volume of care provided by nurses and other staff at this nursing home, we also were impressed by the nursing home's record for vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.68 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our next category, this nursing home also was given an A+ nursing score, rendering it one of the few of facilities to be awarded all A+'s. The nursing score is based on several components, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. For example, it performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These statistics are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
