Facility Inspections
To pair with a favorable overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for inspections. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it was awarded a strong long-term care score. In fact, long-term care ended up being its second most impressive category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.12664 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.84 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility is just about middle of the pack in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our better scores in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. In computing these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this facility was awarded a decent nursing grade. While this isn't nearly as impressive as several of its other scores, this is still not a poor grade. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is a very low figure. Finally, while this nursing home did not rank highly in terms of nursing hours per resident, it performed better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this nursing home fared better than the national average.
