Registered Staff Hours
This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded it an A in this category. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility really excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes performed more favorably in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home was awarded a strong nursing score. This facility did not prove to have any weak areas. Nursing scores are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
