Long-term Care Quality
This facility earned a strong overall grade as mentioned above, but we especially wanted to point out its excellent long-term care grade. We awarded them a grade of A in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also earned excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that category, with an A-. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, this facility also was given favorable short-term care grades this year. In fact, we gave them one of our higher grades in that area, with a grade of B. Short-term care grades are generally used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated was nursing, where this facility was given a grade of B. This nursing home turned out to be very solid in each area we assessed. The nursing grade considers a host of factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
