In addition to receiving a great overall score, this nursing home also performed well in our inspections category, which is based on its recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A in this area. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In computing our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The third category we looked at is short-term care. Contributing to its impressive resume, this facility also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a grade of of A- for that area. Our short-term care grade is typically used to grade a facility's rehabilitation services To have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

In our last area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care score. This completed a very impressive report card. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.12919 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
