Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. Facilities that excel in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After assessing the significant amount of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.03846 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.67 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this facility an A+. Nursing grades are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This place provides an incredible 6 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is far better than what is offered by most facilities. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home the nation in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The fourth area we scored was short-term care. This remarkable facility also excelled in this category, where it was given an A+. This wrapped up a perfect report card of A+'s. Short-term care grades are generally used to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This facility provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most facilities we looked at. This is usually an encouraging sign. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in California in this area with 63.3 percent of its patients returning home.
