To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a patient more often.

Turning our third category, we gave this facility a score of A- for our short-term care rating. This is a first-rate grade. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Turning to our next area, this nursing home was given an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in this area, finishing off one of our more impressive report cards. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
