Long-term Care Quality
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home received an excellent long-term care score. We gave it an A in that category. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life or death condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. Adding to its impressive resume, this facility also performed well in that area. In fact, we gave it a of A- for that category. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the last area, this facility was awarded a strong nursing grade. We gave it a grade of B+ in that category, finishing off one of our better profiles. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
