One of the best aspects of this facility's report card is its remarkable inspection score, which is addressed in the next section.

Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 96.19772 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
Another concern is the F this nursing home received in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Considering its weak rating in this area, we weren't shocked to find that this facility provides far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 30.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this nursing home did not perform very well. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is this facility's poorest grade. When computing our nursing grades, we assess both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provided only 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is well below average. On top of being below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor marks in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in both of these metrics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics helped pull down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
