Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

One of this nursing home's better category grades came in the category of long-term care. This proved to be its second most favorable category. In that category, we awarded this facility a C. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we graded is short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next category we analyzed is nursing, which was a weak link for this nursing home. We awarded this facility a D in our nursing category. The nursing rating includes many data points. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This place offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
