Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of faring well overall, this nursing home received an excellent inspection report. As a result, we gave it one of our highest grades in that area with a grade of A. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was elite in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this category. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score assesses a handful of datapoints, but the main one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we scored was long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility an acceptable grade of B-. This actually was this nursing home's worst area. For residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility vaccinated 95.522385 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable percentage. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
