After we finished assessing the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
The next area we looked at was nursing. This nursing home was awarded a grade of B- in the area. Our nursing score is largely tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did well in this metric. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning residents more frequently.
