Registered Staff Hours
This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This place was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a favorable grade in long-term care. This facility earned a B in this area, which happens to be one of our more favorable grades. For residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 88.28125 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is a few points less than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we looked at is short-term care, where this facility was awarded a B- in this area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Moving on to our last area, we gave this facility a grade of D for our nursing category. This is the facility's worst category rating. Of course, this category hurt the nursing home's overall grade to a certain degree. When determining a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses spend with patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This place offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
