Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category generally have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a favorable score in short-term care. This facility earned a B in this category, which turns out to be one of our higher grades. Short-term care grades are often employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
The third category we looked at is long-term care, where this facility was awarded a C in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility vaccinated a relatively low 67.08074 percent of its patients, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our last category, this facility was given a C in nursing, which we consider to be a decent score. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
