Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of A-. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's short-term care rating turns out to be one of its better grades. The nursing home was awarded a B- in this category. In computing these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. The nursing grade assesses many components, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually fared better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded was long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in that category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. In calculating these long-term care grades, we quantify the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to only 76.76768 percent of its patients. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
