Although this place's overall grade was terrible, it fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing score is mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.

Tragically, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is typically a fair measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, we discovered that this place offered less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 28.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

The final area we rated is long-term care, where this facility received a poor grade here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 93.66197 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 1.49 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
