Facility Inspections
The main reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of A-. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also would like to note that this facility was given favorable long-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in that category, with a B. This turned out to be the nursing home's second strongest score. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Next we looked at nursing grades, where this nursing home received an F, which is a rock bottom grade. This area was definitely not a strength for this facility. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed was short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. This is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care ratings are vital for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
