Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great facility is that it received a strong short-term care score. In that category, we gave this nursing home an A. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. There are quite a few criteria included in this category. Many of these datapoints reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we analyzed was long-term care. We gave this nursing home one of our better grades in that category, with a B. Even though this isn't as high as a few of its other grades, it is nevertheless a perfectly acceptable grade. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
