Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care score outpaced its overall score. We gave it a grade of B+ for its long-term care score. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the datapoints we considered after nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B+. When calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning patients more often.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it earned one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. This nursing home was given a C in the category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We weren't able to find information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
