Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. We believe that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care score. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most critical for patients requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.7 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
Another concern is the F this nursing home received in the area of long-term care. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The next area we looked at is nursing, in which this nursing home received a poor grade in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely very concerning. Our nursing score assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
