Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. We analyzed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On the list of its many high-end scores, this facility received an excellent short-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A in that area. Our short-term care scores are vital for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its strong profile, this facility also received a strong long-term care grade, with a grade of A. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

In the last category we looked at, we found that this facility received a solid inspection report this year as well. It earned a decent grade in our inspection category with a score of B. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
