Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. We weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's deficiencies. We wish we had more data for this nursing home. Without the deficiency data, it was challenging to assess it in the inspections category.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's better category grades came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the skill levels of the nurses. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest category is short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. In this area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, we discovered that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
