Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave it an A-. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores was in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more important for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. When determining our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Switching gears to the next area, this facility was given a decent long-term care grade of B-. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we look at the personal care received by a facility's patients. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
