Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall performance, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for the area of inspections. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. It does not look like we have deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so favorably is that it was awarded a dominant long-term care score. Indeed, long-term care turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A-. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with quantity of nursing care available. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the fourth category, we gave this facility a grade of D in the area of short-term care. This was the facility's least impressive category grade. Naturally, this grade pulled down the facility's overall profile to some degree. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. It appears that this nursing home was below average in many staffing metrics we looked at. In fact, it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
